How to Make Comments on Newsvine

Would you like to make better comments on Newsvine, well sure you would. I have created an revolutionary system that has been years in development to help you make better comments on newsvine. It can be yours for 3 easy instalments of $39.99 plus $2000.52 shipping and handling.

Now seriously, I would like to talk about some commenting ethics. I would hate to see the comments become like Digg- With the classic, "This Sucks, NO DIGG." But I have noticed a it seems to be sliding that way.

First Rule, If you want to disagree state your reasons why. The whole point of commenting is to add value to the conversation.

Second Rule, Stay away form middle school like cut downs. Such as "This is the stupidest article ever." There are billions of articles written in the history of man kind so lets not be so dramatic.

Third Rule, If you are trying to be sarcastic and it is not painfully obvious, please say so. Tone of voice is not a luxury of the cyber space.

Any others feel free to post.

Just be polite. Ask yourself before you make a comment, would I say this in front of the person's face I am commenting on? Would you say this in front of your own family and friends?

When you are on the Internet, you don't see the person you are talking to. You don't see their reactions, their body language, their tone, and feel their vibe. Which makes it way more approachable. Because of this, often some people take the lower route of trolling, flaming, and name calling because its easy and somewhat entertaining to them.

Yes totally agree. However I want to add that even in face to face situations, we need a sense of respect for the other guy - even if he is wrong.

I agree. Even if it just seems that the article really ridiculously to yourself.

I couldn't agree more. People tend to get impersonal when there's miles of fiber optics between them. I call it Road rage on the information superhighway.
We all need to be reminded of this from time to time.... Thanks Justin.

I just hate when people get all pissed off when you post something that they don't like. Some of them even act like its there personal website when really its a open forum. And use Capital letters.

"LOOK AT ME I'M YELLING ON THE INTERNET"

my 2 cents

One suggestion I have is if you are taking part in a discussion and you can tell that the comments are beginning to get out of hand it's always worth trying to defuse the situation by stating to the other that you understand their comments etc but that they should also respect your comments too and try to come to an understanding. There is place on the net for conflict resolution too and all it takes is a little restraint on all sides.
