Ken Rockwell is anything but a reliable source. This is the same guy who writes reviews of cameras before he has even held them. For more on Ken Rockwell, search the dpreview.com forums; you'll see what I mean.
That said, I really hope this rumor is true. Nikon has been in need of a higher MP beginner/intermediate DSLR for quite a while.
